Illegal Immigrants are Destroying Our Schools Essay

A huge crisis looms right in front of this country, yet the United States’ politicians do not even take notice. Millions of illegal aliens receive free education every day and it costs the country billions of dollars. California spends most of this money, but Texas does not sit far behind. Not only will this bankrupt and destroy one of the best education systems in the world, but it will also encourage more and more illegals to bring their children to America. Why would anyone expect the situation to be any different? If a car dealership decided to give away cars for one week to anyone that came to the front door there would be no shortage of people lining up outside the gate. Allowing illegal immigrants to continuously take advantage of†¦show more content†¦These expenditures are bad enough, but the situation quickly turns from workable to hopeless when considering the budget cuts that Texas schools must make over the next two years. Sean Cavanagh reveals the stateâ €™s pending cuts in the following quote: â€Å"State officials, facing a-two-year budget shortfall of anywhere between $15 billion and $27 billion, have proposed deep reductions in school spending† (Cavanagh). If Texas’ school budget gets cut $7.5 to $14 billion dollars a year (the $15 and $27 billion figures are based on two-year budgets), and more than a quarter of illegal immigrants live in Texas while the national calculated cost of educating said illegal students is $44.5 billion dollars, then it appears as if the illegal immigrants cost more than the budget cuts. This means that if illegal aliens were sent back home, Texas would not only be able to forget about budget setbacks, but would also be able to put a few billion dollars back into the struggling education system. Lest one forgets what most of these cuts will be made, Cavanagh estimates that â€Å"Texas school systems would be forced to cut between 80,000 and 100,000 jobs if the spending cuts took eff ect† (Cavanagh). Influence of Motivation on Job Performance

Question: Discuss about theInfluence of Motivation on Job Performance. Answer: Introduction Due to the effect of globalization, there has been advancement in the field of technology. These advancements in the technology took the business to its heights by demanding more efficiency and productivity in the business. The enhancements in the efficiency in business are the resultant of the increase in performances that will help in meeting the challenges to take the business ahead in the competition. Therefore the increase in the performance of the employees of the organization is much important for getting better outcomes for the development of the organization (Buchanan, 2012). That is the reason job performance can be better described as the crucial part of the psychological condition of the organization. It can be said as the performance of the employees in the organization which is directly related to the outcome of the organization. As per Karen Jacobs et al., job performance can be described as the exact action of an individual in the completion of the task or job. He has defined job performance as the process of reaching the goal of an individual within its job role in an organization (Dent Whitehead, 2013). Similarly, job performances were said to be individual dependent by Campbell. He described that the performance of an individual in an organization is something that can be done by that individual only for the achievement of success. Concept of Motivation Motivation is the word showing various meanings according to the context and situation. In this context, the concept of motivation is the action taken by the higher officials of the organization to have the encouragement in the employees of that organization. So motivation is such an action that makes the individual to get a motive to act upon the work. As per the study of Garrison et al., motivation can define as the particular attribute that gives the instinct of whether to do or not to do a particular work (Owusu, 2012). In other words, Guay et al. have defined the motivation as the term that is somehow meant the reasons that show the behaviour. But while going through the organizational context or workplace, the term motivation has been defined as the behaviour of an individual in the organization for having a purpose to achieve some particular needs of the organization by Williams (Onanda, 2015). Similarly, some other authors had described it as the force that drives the individ ual or the employee in fulfilling the goals of the organization. The amount of motivation within the employees makes the fulfilment of the commitment of the organization simultaneously giving them their identification in that organization (Muogbo, 2013). The achievement of the goals of the organization makes the connection of the employees with the organization very good. In detail, it can be said that the motivation in the employees of the organization makes up the interests of the employees for their job which enhances the job performances that increases the outcome of the organization. That is the reason motivation can also be defined as the activity that basically concerns about the attitudes of the individual or employee which gives rise to the action of completion of goals. Impact of Motivation on Job Performances Organizations usually face a very strong environment of pressure in the competitive market to carry out the efficiency in the products and to get back the value of the product. For this reason, the employees of that organization make up their belief in the completion of goals to enhance the value of the organization (Kleinbeck, 1987). Due to this, the employees go through a motivational process which makes them change their attitude in the completion of the task or job. This process will also take up to the satisfaction of the employees in their job role. To explain this relation of motivation with the job performances or the impact of motivation on job performances, there is the existence of such theory. Such a theory is the Maslows Hierarchy of Needs. This particular theory has been formulated in the year 1943 in the paper A Theory of Human Motivation by the psychologist Abraham Maslow. He had described in his theory regarding the focus of the employer on the basic needs of the employees which will make them feel motivated (Buchanan, 2012). It was discussed in the theory that if the needs of the employees had been fulfilled it will make them sincere in achieving the goals of the organization and taking the organization to higher levels. For this reason, Maslow in is theory made a hierarchy of the needs of the employees which are required to get fulfilled. Those are the physiological needs, safety needs, love or belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. This hierarchy of needs is arranged in such an order that it m eets all the basic needs of the individual. Physiological needs cover up the needs those required by the individuals for survival. In the same way, the safety, esteem, and love or belonging needs take the matter of securities along with feeling confident in the organization and fulfilling the personal needs respectively. The last one is the self-actualization which means the fulfilment of the desire of the employee to achieve the every possible goal as much as he can for better outcomes of the organization (Dent Whitehead, 2013). The completion of the hierarchical base of needs of the employee of an organization creates a satisfactory environment within the organization. This satisfaction within the employee motivates them to work hard with confidence for the achievement of the goals. Therefore the theory of Maslow Hierarchy has shown that the motivation in the employees came out from the satisfaction of the employees in their job role which creates a positive impact on the job performances of the employees. There must be the action of the motivation of employees within the organization which will be helpful in churning out the decreased amount of performances (Jiang et al., 2012). The motivated employees were much aware of their self-actualization and kept their actions consistent with achieving the goals of the company. Hence it can be said that there is having much influence of motivation on the job performances of the employees of the organization. Relationship Between Motivation and Job Performance Motivation and job performance both in a combination works out for the growth of the organization. Owusu, T., 2012.EFFECTS OF MOTIVATION ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE: A CASE STUDY OF GHANA COMMERCIAL BANK, KUMASI ZONE(Doctoral dissertation, Institute of Distance Learning, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology). This article pays attention towards the process of fulfilment of the goals of the organization. It is mentioned in the article regarding the demands of the employee to enhance their motivation that will increase their performances . Uzonna, U.R., 2013. Impact of motivation on employees' performance: A case study of CreditWest Bank Cyprus.Journal of Economics and International Finance,5(5), p.199. The article mentioned here focus on the working procedure of the management that will enhance the process of employee motivation which will eventually increase the job performance by satisfying the employees of the organization (Uzonna, U.R., 2013). In the first article, Belly Onanda had gone through an investigation on the employees of an organization. There he had selected few branches, i.e, 7 KCB branches in the country of Mombasa, where he had studied the effect of the motivational activities. The effect of these motivational activities had been checked to evaluate the performances of the employees of that organization. Therefore the investigation that the author carried out here showed that the organization is going through many efforts which will make their employees motivated which will turn the decreased performances into increased one. Thus the study that the author had carried out made great achievements by having motivation with the employees which will make the organization to make their stand amongst the competitors by enhancing the performances. Similarly, in the second article, the author US Muogbo had gone through the details of the motivational activities that are having their importance in enhancing motivation. In this article, author had discussed in detail regarding the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation which affects the performances of the employees in its own ways. The author in this study took the population of around 100 workers working in the manufacturing forms of State of Anambra (Muogbo, 2013). The work in this article is majorly involved in describing the statistics of the influence of the motivation on the work performances of the organization. Here the effects of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are shown, but the performances of the employees are irrespective of the intrinsic or extrinsic motivation. The important part is only motivation that enhances the performances of the employees. Therefore the author of this article found out that the employers are very much concerned regarding the performances of the employees and that is why very much active in regulating the rules and policies that are enhancing the performances. The author of the third article is U. Kleinbeck. Here there is the documentation of the literature work that the author has done to evaluate the influence of motivation on the job performances of the employees (Kleinbeck, 1987). The article gave the statement that the motivation can be said to be as the action that is goal directed which also enhances the performances going through the theories to mention the relationship between the motivation and performance. Coming to the fourth article, it was studied by Thomas Owusu. In this article, he had gone through case study and effects of motivation on the performances of employees of Ghana Commercial Bank of Kumasi Zone (Owusu, 2012). He had discussed in this article regarding the relationship between the performances of employee and corporate which needs promotion and regular motivation of the employees. The last article is also a case study done by Ukaejiofo Rex Uzonna, in which there is the description of the working procedure of the management in keeping their employees in control (Uzonna, U.R., 2013). The article focuses on the satisfaction of the employees by going through motivational activities which makes the organization in achieving its goals with high level of performance and much efficiency. Proposition Motivation influences Job Performance in that case where there are less consideration of hygiene factors than motivational factors. Conclusion From the above sources and the studies, it is very much clear that there has been a deep relationship between the motivation and job performances of the employees of an organization. It is evident from the studies that the motivated employees contribute towards the increase in performances of the organization, hence taking the organization to a high level by achieving the required goals. The study also shows that the quality of the service and the profitability of the organization can be uninterrupted if the employees of that organization are highly motivated. Therefore from this study, it is clear that motivation has a positive and significant influence on the job performances of an organization. References Buchanan, D., 2012. Old Mortality By Anne Porter Essays - Miranda, Amy Pond, You

Old Mortality By Anne Porter Throughout Katherine Anne Porters Old Mortality, a variety of elements are present. Some of which consist of romance, memories and the illusions instilled upon the legendary status of Amy. All of these elements play a solid role towards the persuasion of Miranda. They persuaded her into acting on certain ideas that she pulled out of the stories about her Aunt Amy. Now even though Aunt Amy was portrayed in a very special light, the elements that surrounded the story did not exactly have a positive effect on Maria and Miranda. What this paper is going to do is explain that all the above mentioned characteristics play a positive and negative role on the lives of the two children, Maria and Miranda. In the first chapter, Maria and Miranda were told the story about their Aunt Amy and their very romantic Uncle Gabriel. People spoke of Aunt Amy in a very loving way, but they masked the truth. They merely told the story the way that they felt it should have been told. There is no problem with this in the eyes of the brother and grandmother, but they neglect the idea that children at this age are very impressionable. This is definitely a negative aspect towards the exaggeration of how wonderful their Aunt Amy was. It carried the negative following because of many reason demonstrated throughout the story. First is that the buildup of Maria and Miranda's Aunt and Uncle were just the first step towards a larger let down in all facets. The first time that Maria and Miranda met Uncle Gabriel at the racetrack, after all of the good words spoken, they had a false idea of what he looked like, talked like, and acted like. They discovered that he wasn't the perfect looking man that he was made out to be, and that he wasn't as elegant as described. He was merely a large, loud spoken, sort of obnoxious gambler. He had a false identity stapled to him and his surroundings. It wasn't just the fact that he did not meet the description given to him, but the idea that things surrounding him were not all that they were made out to be either. This was Miranda's first dose of reality, and not just the stories that were being told to them. It was the first major disappointment that either Miranda or Maria faced and that changed a lot of things from that moment on. Miranda's childhood dream of becoming a horse jockey, due to all the fond memories experienced and told to her, was changed after she realized reality. On top of that, the idea of since their Aunt Amy's better half wasn't all he was made out to be; maybe she wasn't as perfect as everyone claimed her to be either. This is a very negative force in the novel, because it is the first step taken by Miranda to change her life and fall into the same trap as her Aunt Amy did. Another negative aspect of the memories, illusions, romance about Aunt Amy was that in the third chapter, Miranda is told the real version of the story about her Aunt Amy by her Aunt Eva. Aunt Eva is a"chinless, feminist, Latin-teaching, spinster." They meet on a train ride to Uncle Gabriel's funeral, and that is when, during the train ride, that Aunt Eva tells Miranda the whole story about her Aunt Amy. It wasn't a flattering story, it revealed such issues about how Amy was addicted to sex and that she was caught in some very compromised position. Not just about the scandal involving Amy and the stranger being underplayed by the family, but also about how maybe she did not die because of reasons believed, but maybe she committed suicide. Aunt Eva made Aunt Amy look like a wreck loose youngster not afraid of anything. She was wild, impure and not exactly in love, but looking for an escape from family and reality. At the end of her time all of this caught up to her and she had only one escape. This was the version told by Aunt Eva, and to Miranda's surprise, she has lived almost an identical life so far. She has participated in a broken marriage, she wants to escape the family mold and she wants to be free and wild. One thing though, Miranda refuses to acknowledge that this version of Aunt Amy's life is any less romantic or true then the other version that

When the pH drops below pH 8. 3 phenolphthalein will go colourless. Here, an alkaline solution of milk, lipase and phenolphthalein will change from pink to colourless as the fat in milk is broken down to form fatty acids (and glycerol) thus reducing the pH to below 8. 3. Through this report, the aim is to investigate the effect of increasing temperature on the activity of the enzyme lipase. The data of the experiment results showed that the sample [Test tube 1] in five degrees took around 31 minutes and 04 seconds to turns into light pink, but the testing wasn’t complete, as the test tube was break down before it completed, but record from another group’s result, it took around 50 minutes for the sample to completely turn white. (Result from Sumin’s group). The sample [Test tube 2] in 20 degrees took around 16 minutes and 26 seconds to complete the reaction and completely turned white. The sample [Test tube 3] took around 2 minutes and 09 seconds to complete the reaction and this sample took the shortest time to complete the reaction. The sample [Test tube 4] took around 32 minutes and 21 seconds to turn into very light pink (White with pink), but it didn’t complete the reaction as the time was run out. As the result, it shows that the temperature between 20 to 45 degrees is the best environment for the fat in milk to broken down to fatty acids and glycerol thus reducing the pH to below 8. and the taken time will increase if the temperature is over 45 degrees and the lipase might not break down the fat in milk or not work at all. The temperature affected the action of the fat breaks down to fatty acids and glycerol (lipase) in this way because when the temperature increase and then the time taken for the reaction will also increase by increase the collision rate between the substrate molecules and enzymes. The fastest time for the reaction is at the suitable and advantageous temperature for the enzymes which is between 20 to 45 degrees (Â ± 5 degrees). The time taken for the reaction will decrease from 5 degrees to 45 degrees, but the time will increase since the temperature is reach and over 45 degrees, as the protein structure of the enzyme will denatured by the high temperature and the enzyme is de-activated and the molecule is lose its shape. (University of Maryland Medical Center, 2009) Recording from the experiment result, the best temperature for the fat in milk breaks down to fatty acids and glycerol is between 20 to 45 degrees and it might not work really well when the temperature is over 45 degrees. On another hand, there are some weaknesses need to be improve in the experiment. Firstly, the water temperature for the Test tubes to stay in was under/ over the temperature that was suggest in the experiment as the temperature of the water was hard to control as the exactly temperature that the instruction suggested, so the group was recommend that a member from the group needs to add extra hot water/ extra ice when the temperature of the water is under/ over the temperature recommended. Secondly, the group set up and put all the test samples in the test tube at the beginning of the experiment and suddenly left the samples in the room temperature for almost 10 minutes before the group start the experiment; therefore, the results from the experiment might be wrong as the solution in the test tube might affects the lipase during the break time. As the result, the group suggest to mix up the solution and the test samples before the experiment starts, and the break time gap is not allowed. Thirdly, the syringe wasn’t used to measure out the lipase, so the group chose to restart the experiment as the results may have changed. However, after restarting the experiment as a whole, the experiment was a lot more successful and there was more care. Finally, these improvements will be use as a reference in the next class experiment. Conclusion In conclusion, the results from the experiment shown that the best temperature for the fat in milk to break down to fatty acids and glycerol is 45 degrees and the reaction will not work really well since the temperature are over 45 degrees. Also, recording from the graph, the test tube 3 (45 degrees) spent less time to complete the process and the test tube 4 (60 degrees) spent more time to turn the colour of the liquid into light pink and the process/ reaction didn’t complete in the end. As well, the information shown at the website of the University of Maryland Medical Centre displayed that the protein structure of the enzyme will denatured by the high temperature and the enzyme is deactivated and the molecule is lose its shape when the temperature is over 45 degrees. University of Maryland Medical Center, 2009). As the result, when the temperature increase from zero degrees to 45 degrees, the time taken for the reaction will decrease, but the reaction starts slow down since the temperature is reach and over 45 degrees. My personal Management Experience Essay Example

My personal Management Experience Essay Example My personal Management Experience Essay My personal Management Experience Essay My Personal Management Experience Name; Course: Date: My Personal Management Experience I was employed as a store manager for a jewelry store that was only just opening. My boss called me one morning and said, â€Å"I want you to be in Eastridge Mall tomorrow,† and he gave me the address. I showed up the following day at the Mall as directed and found a store under construction. The whole place consisted of construction material and debris. There were Sheetrock walls, hanging wires from the ceiling and brand new showcases ready to be installed. He called me the same evening and surprised me by saying, â€Å"Congratulation, this is the store you will be running.† I accepted this new and greater responsibility with newfound confidence. I had worked as a jewelry sales person and I understood quite well the difficult task that lay ahead. This was bound to be a wonderful experience. I had always wanted to mange big assignments and this was one of them. My first management challenge consisted in establishing a clientele, forming a strong workforce and making a reasonable profit for the company. My boss believed in my vast experience as a sales person and he expected me to deliver the required results. . I had to strategize on how to kick-start the operations of the store and how to capture loyal customers. This was no mean feat for someone who has never had any management experience in the past. Running a new store is a challenging task. In the retail world, all businesses are driven by the desire to make profits. This was a difficult task considering the fact that I was given a brand new store with no clientele and located in a very unfamiliar market. I had to apply what I had learnt from my experience as a sales person and what I had learnt from my management classes to this challenge. I was required to takeover the planning from now onwards. As the manager, I was tasked with the responsibility of organizing the required resources whether financial or material to be delivered to the store. I was also responsible for the staffing. The store needed an adequate and competent workforce to be able to make it through this stage. For the operations to run smoothly, I had to be able to guide and motivate my workforce and ensure that everything was going according to the plans set down. This is just but a brief insight of the task that lay ahead of me. As a manager, I was supposed to do my work diligently. The construction was already underway, I had to incorporate my company’s designs into the already laid out designs. This was to make sure that the store is constructed according to the company’s standards. I therefore had to be present at the construction site to supervise the ongoing construction. This was my first assignment. I had to co-ordinate the construction process and I was leaving nothing to chance. Signs for example, were to be placed in the right places and given perfect angling; the lighting system had to meet the company’s standards. Since this business involves expensive jewelry, security was very important. I had to ensure that the security system was standard. All the display cases had to be secured to ensure no one tampers with the jewelry. These measures had to be taken to ensure that everything was in place. In this stage of the project, I applied management control. This assisted me in verifying whether the construction work was going accordi ng to my plan After overseeing the completion of the construction work, I had to focus on the opening of the store. This was one of the most important stages of this assignment. My mission was to put up a credible work force that will assist me in developing the store into a competitive and profit making outlet. I recruited a formidable sales team bout one month before the store commenced its operations. This was essential because without the right sales people I (Store manager) would not succeed. Coming up with the right team was quite difficult. I had set my own objectives on the kind of people I wanted for this job. I had to build a competent group of workers and so I chose those that really suited my descriptions for the best. As a manager I was guided by one principle, I gave my work the best I can and treated my customers with the respect they deserved. As quoted in Arnold et al’s article in the Journal of Retailing issue number 85 of 2009, â€Å"transformational managers attempt to act in the best interests of both the customer and the company to provide effective solutions to the needs of both groups (Bass, 1977)†. This principle motivates me to do my best and guides all my practices as a manager. A manager however does not work alone; he is assisted in his work by his sales team. I strived to instill these values in the team that I managed to create. I set goals for the sales team we had to get the business running and rake up sales within the first two months. These objectives guided my choice of candidates for the sales job. I laid out the minimum qualifications and the attributes of the sales personnel. My ideal candidate had to possess the following characteristics. First, they must be lovers of jewelry, a person who does not love what he/she is selling will find it difficult to passionately market a piece to a customer and convince them to purchase it regardless of its price. Second, the person must be enthusiastic; customers prefer sales people who are lively and appealing. Positive attitude will always result in customer satisfaction and eventually a sale. Third, the person must be ambitious; employees who want to advance in their careers in future always give their best. Keeping in mind all these expectations, I formed a sales team that consisted of seven dedicated people. They were lovers of jewelry, enthusiastic, and all desired to grow in their respective careers. They also had to fulfill my manager’s expectations. These p eople had to be proficient in whatever they were going to do so training was necessary. After hiring them, I trained them on the various roles they would take in the store. Several years ago, I was working as a sales person at my first job (Zale’s the Diamond Store). The manager at this store had a great relationship with his workers. I loved the way he related with those under him and he inspired me to be like him. He was also unbelievably talented in the art of marketing. He knew how lure the customer into buying something; he always knew the right words to use. .He taught me how to approach the customer, make a conversation, find out about their needs, and listen to them. He believed that through listening, we learn more about someone than when we talk. Roman et al in their article in the journal of marketing management say that listening skills can lead to higher sales performance â€Å"From the salesperson’s perspective, empirical research has shown that effective listening leads to higher sales performance† ( Roman et al, 2005 ). He inspired me and I strived to pass down his values to my sales team The staffing function required much more time than I had anticipated; I had to set up instruction/training sessions for my team on a daily basis. The training comprised education on customer service, product knowledge and listening and communication skills. The daily sessions are essential because they are also used to review the progress of our daily objectives and assist us in making corrections as appropriate. Through these meetings, we interact, highlight the problem areas, and propose solutions or improvements as appropriate. We have set up half hour opening and closing meetings where we talk about the store’s goals break it down to our individual goals, and then we discuss whether we have achieved those goals and what we ought to do in order to achieve them. In the closing meetings, we review the days work and evaluate individual as well as team performance. These meetings represent a minor form of performance appraisal. Another strategy that I employ when dealing with m y team involves role-play and building scenarios. This has an enormous impact on their learning. It is a great confidence builder and aids the team in their learning. The bottom line is I always recognize the efforts of my sales team and closely monitor their behavior and correct them in areas where they have gone wrong. My short-term goals were to be able to gain a consistent flow of sales and to attract a meaningful number of customers. With these goals in mind, we set out on the methods to achieve them. I identified several ways through which we could be able to gain and retain customers. One important was to have a motivated sales team, second was to carry out intensive marketing of the new store. These were key strategies for the achievement of our goals. I had to motivate my sales people and ensure that we marketed ourselves well. Together with the head office, we embarked on massive promotional campaigns on print and communication media and in the internet. We also put up a series of promotional billboards in the neighborhood. Our marketing campaign paid off very well and within a few days, customers started streaming into our store. The second step involved the motivation of workers, we offered incentives for those who achieved a certain amount of sales and the daily meetings enabled them to be participatory and hardworking. Overall, the performance of the sales team and the store in general exceeded my expectations. I agreed to become a manager because I believed in my ability to recognize the areas for potential improvement in my sales associates and correct it before became too late. I understood that every single flaw within my sales team would reflect ten times greater on my own portfolio. I achieve that by creating a great relationship with my team. Achieving our short-term goals was not as difficult as I had previously thought. With the motivated workforce and the regular clientele, we were way beyond our goals. My focus now shifted to the medium term goals. One of my medium term objectives involved the retaining of present customers and improvement of sales. We had to create an impression on the clientele to ensure that they will come back again. This was not an easy feat to achieve. Great and efficient customer service is a combination of patience, intelligence and understanding. The sales team had to be made aware of these three pillars of effective customer service delivery. I ensured that I reminded them about this in our daily meetings and instructed them on how customers should be handled. Another important step that I took was to enforce disciplinary actions, these were necessary in order to maintain a reliable and strong sales team. At the end of the day, the manager is responsible for the mistakes of his team. It is t herefore prudent to have disciplinary action taken against team members who violate the rules set to govern misconduct at the workplace. This is one way through which the work force can stay focused on the company’s objectives. When a manager metes out punishment on an employee it is always for the good of the employee and the company. When the employee is repeatedly involved in misconduct, he/she should be replaced. Some of these rules were agreed on as we embarked on the journey to achieve greater sales and to retain and gain more customers. As a manager, I prided myself in being a successful organizer. I had the roles of all my seven sales personnel well defined, each of them had a role clearly carved out for them. Teamwork was an important element of the sales process. If one member of the sales team found it difficult to convince a customer, it was normal practice to refer them to another member. If both failed to make a deal with the customer, I always intervene to save the situation and make the sale. I have never been a manager who works only to collect paychecks, but to gain my paycheck and deserve it. My participation motivates the team; they are aware of the need to be effective and to do their best. Having a rapport with your customer gives them the motivation to come again. They also recommend the store to their friends. Excellent customer service helps the company establish this rapport with the customers and in turn enables the organization to increase sales. I endeavored to ensure that the sales team mainta ined an excellent rapport with customers in order to achieve the goal of maximum sales and to gain more clients. Through these simple steps, we were able to establish ourselves as a formidable force within the jewelry market. Our sales soared at unbelievable rates and clients continued streaming into our store. My manager acknowledged my performance and even upgraded my store’s capacity due to the increasing sales that we were registering. We had made a lot of progress as far as the achievement of our goals was concerned. We attained parity in sales and the number of customers who called at our store had increased. However, one problem still troubled me; we had inconsistencies in the sale of a particular stock of diamond rings. This ring had registered the least sales despite being tone of the most valuable and most sought after rings in the country. I figured out that there might be a problem in its display station and made the decision to have it displayed at a different position. We deliberated on this as a team and I decided that this particular ring be displayed on the finest showcase for the customers to see. Each member was supposed to take keen interest on customers who showed their interest in the ring and attend to them with the tact and experience they had gained over the few months that the store has been in operation. Another problem that we had to contend with was the height of the showcases it was observ ed that the showcases were taller than the standard height. This made it difficult for the customers to have a comprehensive view of the jewelry showcased. This was identified as an impediment to the sales process. Some jewelry had intrinsic features that could only be noticed by an observant customer. Others like rings had minute details that can only be seen if the customer has the best view. This therefore posed a major problem. The showcases had to be replaced with others that were waist-length in order to allow the customers to have a comprehensive view of the jewelry. These two were some of the major challenges that we faced in the jewelry store. We were able to replace the showcases after receiving financial help from the head office. Our sales increased considerably with this new adjustment and we realized that customers could now see all the jewelry displayed in the store. Our sales staff also became busier than before since customers were now more interested in the detail. We have not yet achieved our goals as a company yet but according to my observation, we are right on track and given more time, we will be a force to reckon with in the jewelry market. As a manager, I believe I have employed the functions of management as taught in management class and that is the reason why I have a wonderful record of accomplishment. I planned my processes and objectives quite well and organized all the resources required to achieve them. I also ensured that I had a well, developed and qualified workforce for the job. I ensured that the workforce was well motivated and that communication in the store was open. Constant evaluation and reviews of the progress of operations also assisted me in troubleshooting potential threat areas and finding credible solutions to these threats. Recognizing the passion for what we do is the key to our success. The only reason why I have been featured on the company’s â€Å"newspaper† for several years now is because my store registered the highest profit margin. I am proud of myself simply because I always give the best of my efforts, set higher than normal expectations for myself and never lose hope in difficult times.

Minor assessment - Essay Example firm, on the other hand, is facing defective products from claims by the Spanish firm. The contract that the two companies signed contains an arbitration clause and alternative dispute resolution provision with choice of law features. This contract defines several key issues to be observed by the two companies in their dealings as partners in the business: their conduct, litigation and dispute resolution. These include the following factors: Castilla S.L. and New Jersey Inc. will work on an exclusive basis to purchase and resell chattels in the region defined by the two entities. Both companies accept the appointment on the terms and conditions set forth herein that obligates the companies to fulfill the requirements of this agreement. The term â€Å"Product† will mean the chattels that will be sold by the two companies. The two companies reserve the right to delete discontinued products upon thirty days’ written notice to all stakeholders. 1) The companies can agree to solve the problems out of court as partners because this option is available in the contract signed by both parties. They can come together to analyze the causes of the delivery delays by the Spanish distributor and the defective product claims by the Spanish firm. This option will be very important because the companies have not worked together for long and these problems could be because of minor issues that can be solved and ignored. 2) The second option would be for the firms to implement fully the clause from the contract that requires that any of the partners should pay for the risks if it is it found out that the firm deliberately caused the risk. This can be done by conducting an investigation to the problems and the participation of the firms. 3) The third option would be for the companies to allow the court to help them solve the dispute because this option is also provided under the contract. Both parties have claims against the other. Therefore, going to court could be the

Team Sports Economics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Team Sports Economics - Essay Example Also compared to others it is a small academic field altogether. The pioneer of this economics’ field is said to be S. Rottenberg, who happened to be working at the renowned University of Massachusetts as an economist. He focused on the market of baseball players and did a journal in 1956 entitled, â€Å"Journal of Political Economy.† 1(Kasenne, 2007 p1) This is a study which seeks to put its entire concentration on the aforementioned field of economics and it will go on to discuss the field in detail. The write out will vividly make a comprehensive and an unbiased look at the team sports’ economics. To this it will answer the study question, â€Å"How effective are the competition balance policies in the models of sport evidenced in North America and Europe?† Examples to make this topic more understandable and interesting to read will be given from the current professional leagues in these two nations. The study will start by looking at the North American case and then continue to have a look at the European case. Many are the times that leagues have not portrayed the best interests of the set policies by the bodies responsible. This has left the loyal fans of various clubs disappointed. European football has not been spared by negative scandals that strike leagues off the competitive balance. The study sets out by tackling of the North American scenario portrays a good number of professional leagues with the inclusion of National Basketball Association commonly known referred by the initials NBA, Major League Baseball- MLB, National Football League (NFL) and also the hockey league- National Hockey League (NHL). The leagues in entirety are privately owned with regards to individual teams involved. Thus, the league is a private team ownership kind of league run together with the administrators they use their discretion to choose. Administrators are commonly referred to as Commissioners. Apart from their being the sole determiners of the plays taking place for the branded league, these leagues also take part in ample activities like definition of territories, their protection, making decisions on the location of teams by way of relocation and expansion as well as making negotiations of players, players’ unions, location of teams and TV contracts. Besides these responsibilities the leagues may be with the competitive balance’s future interest. By way of default or from another perspective the owners’ of the teams’ agendas, the policies made by the league enhance level balance in the upholding of competitiveness. Expounding on this view, the Rottenberg’s sentiments are going to be cited. According to him, team fans would rather their teams won in close kind of games than any other outcomes. Fans also have another preference in their list and that is; there should be occasional hopes brought about by the form portrayed in the post-season plays by the teams that they support. Imbal anced games are, therefore, a counter-expectation on the preferences by fans. In other words, competitive balance is what is most preferred by team fans. In a case where in a league there are problematic imbalances the fans of this league that harbors losers will experience a decline in the interests they had for the teams they support. If the same fans continued supporting the league with the same level of thrill as before despite the losing team’

The U.S cultures and business perspectives Essay

The U.S cultures and business perspectives - Essay Example Just like the U.S.A, Brazil is a melting pot of nationalities due to long periods of slavery and European domination. The country has about 190 million people, whereby 50% of the people are white. Majority of the Brazilian people are Catholics and speak Portuguese as a national language. Bananas are the staple food in Brazil. Bananas are also grown in America, Texas. The Brazilians prefer to deal with companies, rather than individuals when doing business. The people have a close adherence to business etiquette like the Americans. The Saudi Arabians are primarily Arabs and Muslims. Greetings are very formal in Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, people in the U.S don’t take too much time greeting each other. Women in Saudi Arabia dress in abayas (cloths that cover the entire body except the face and hands). The manner of doing business in Saudi Arabia is largely similar to that of the U.S.A in terms of etiquette and communication style. The country is the Middle East’s lar gest trading partner of the U.K. Dressing in suits and ties is a similarity for Saudi and American businessmen.  Territorial-wise, Russia is the largest country in the world. With Russian serving as the main language, the country has over 190 ethnic groups. Christianity, Islam and Tengrism are the primary religions of Russia. The Russians eat unique foods such as Borshch, Caviar and Pirozhkis. The Russians value time keeping highly when doing business. The ceremonial practice of receiving and exchanging business cards is taken seriously in Russia.

Meditation In Zen Buddhism Philosophy Essay

Meditation In Zen Buddhism Philosophy Essay Meditation is the foundation of Zen Buddhism. Zen literally means to meditate. Meditation, in Zen, is the path and the goal. The goal is to meditate. Like all religions, Zen Buddhism has split into sections. Zen has two schools of thought, the gradual and the sudden approach to enlightenment. In the gradual school, there is only one way to practice Zen meditation, which is seated meditation, called zazen. Zazen can be performed in several different ways, but the positions have no spiritual significance. The positions are mainly to create comfort, stability, and ability to breathe through the diaphragm properly. The sudden school believes enlightenment could potentially occur instantly. They use koans, mondos, and turning phrases to help the practitioner gain more insight, and hopefully be enlightened. Koans, mondos, and turning phrases are irrational dialogues or statements that practitioners contemplate upon. The main topics to point out when discussing meditation in Zen Buddhism ar e the goals of their meditation, the gradual school of thought, and the sudden school of thought. In Zen, the path of meditation is the goal. It is similar to riding your bicycle just to ride your bicycle. Through mediation, Zen Buddhists do not attempt to do anything, but to be in the moment. The Vietnamese Zen teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, says, We practice so that each moment of our life becomes real life. There is no goal in Zen, but to focus on ones being, moment by moment. While practicing meditation, one may also find other benefits, like better health and a more relaxed state of my mind. Unlike many sects of Buddhism, as well as many other religions, Zen Buddhists do not have scriptures to which they should study, but they may do so if they choose. Zen Buddhists focus primarily on one simple act, which is meditation. They believe that achievement of the Buddhahood comes from silence. Zen has two popular sections, gradual and sudden. They both are means to enlightenment, but have two different points of view. In the gradual school of Zen, there is only one technique of meditation, which is called zazen. Zazen literally means sitting meditation. Zazens motto is: To be a Buddha is to sit like a Buddha. That is, while sitting, sit completely. Be aware of the stillness of everything while enjoying not having to do anything but be in the moment. Although there are no doctrines or disciplines in Zen, there are many instructions for meditation postures. In Zen culture, there was less of a difference between body, breath, and mind than in the west. Zen practitioners believe if one aligns their spine correctly, fold their legs properly, sit properly, and keep still; they can achieve stillness of the mind. Much of the stillness of the mind in Zen is believed to be achieved through the correct posture of the body. Many of the Zen postures come from ancient Indian yogic positions developed to increase alignment and awareness. Although they come from yogic postures, they have no divine meaning them; they are only intended to increase comfort, stability, and the ability to breathe well. In Zen, it is believed that awakening must penetrate every cell of the body, so they must engage the body as well as the mind when meditating. Zazen is typically done in one way with several variations. The most effective way of seated meditation is done is with ones legs crossed and spine aligned straight up and curved, giving a pyramid shape to ones posture. It is usually done on the floor, with a soft mat and pillow to sit on to raise the body a little so that ones knees can touch the ground. With ones knees touching the ground, it creates three points of contact with the ground to give the practitioner a sturdy base. The easiest form of zazen is the Burmese position. In the Burmese position, one has their legs crossed, and their feet flat on the floor. In this position it is very easy to keep ones back straight because putting ones feet on the floor forces the practitioner to keep his back curved, which is an essential part of zazen. Two other positions are the half lotus and the full lotus. Both positions are very similar, but the half lotus requires less flexibility, and is easier for most people. To perform the half lotus, one foot placed over the opposite thigh, and the other foot is placed under the opposite leg. The full lotus position is when both legs are put on both thighs. This position is more recommended because it gives the practitioner much more balance. There are also two other zazen positions which are commonly used. The first position is the sieza position. The sieza position is kneeling, with your buttocks on both feet. You can sit on either a pillow, or your bare legs. You can also use a sieza bench to kneel on. The second position is the chair position. The bench keeps ones back straight, and takes the weight off of ones feet. The other position is to simply sit on a chair with ones feet on the floor, arching the back. It is important to keep ones back straight while meditating so that one can breathe with the diaphragm properly. A good sitting posture as well as good hand position allows the body to give uninhibited deep breaths. While doing Zen meditation, one should use the Dhyani mudra hand position. The Dhyani mudra is a way to position ones hands so that they can take deep breaths from their diaphragm. To do so, the practitioner will place both hands on top of one another, with their palms facing up. Their knuckles should be on top of one another as well, with their thumbs touching gently together. Breathing through the diaphragm creates deep, slow breaths, which is quite useful when practicing zazen. Breathing is not only useful while meditating, but it is useful in all aspects of our health. Andrew Weil M.D., an author and physician said, Improper breathing is a common cause of ill health. If I had to limit my advice on healthier living to just one tip, it would be simply to learn how to breathe correctly. Theres no single more powerful or simpler daily practice to further your health and well-being than breath-work. ~ Andrew Weil, M.D. The sudden school of Zen, which believes in sudden enlightenment, has koans as a focal point of meditation. In The Complete Idiots Guide to Buddhism, Gary Gach says that koans are seemingly illogical riddles, like Two hands come together in a clap. What is the sound of one hand? A koan is not a riddle. It doesnt call for a solution (its not a math puzzle with an equation waiting in an answer book); rather, it is a personal breakthrough with a flash of enlightenment. In other words, it is a statement or conversation that cannot be understood by rational thinking; it can only be understood by intuition. Zen Buddhists believe that scriptures will lead scholars to misinterpretations of the original meanings, which is why Zen masters made Koans. Koans go beyond words. They attempt to go beyond the boundaries of intellect and language, and find awakening or enlightenment. Zen master Hakuin, author of the koan, What is the sound of one hand? has said, Whats true meditation? Its to make it all coughing, swallowing, gestures, motion, stillness, words, action, good and evil, success and shame, win and lose, right and wrong into one single koan. Although Zen Buddhists are not against words, they try to limit the amount of description to leave the interpreting to the practitioner who is attempting to gain insight. The primary beginning of using koans in Zen Buddhism originated from Hui Neng, a poor man who gathered and sold firewood for a living. He achieved enlightenment suddenly while he overheard a man reciting the Diamond Sutra, a scripture on emptiness and wisdom which requires great insight to understand. When he overheard the man say, Awaken your mind without fixing it anywhere, he was enlightened on the spot. Koans are meant to be contemplated until they are realized. While one meditates is the optimal time to think about them, but they can also be taken home to contemplate. According to The Complete Idiots Guide to Buddhism, there are about 400 indexed koans and about 1700 in all. There are so many koans because they deal with particular parts of the Way of enlightenment. Many of the koans, such as Hakuins koan, What is the sound of one hand? are designed to take the practitioner past the normal self into Buddha mind. There are also koan related Zen dialogues called mondos. Mondos are question-and-answer banter between people. They are similar to koans because they have the same non-sense questions and statements. An example of a mondo is in the Milindapanha, which reads, King Milinda said to learned monk Nagasena, Im going to ask you a question. Can you answer it? Nagasena replied, Please, ask your question. The King: Ive already asked. Nagasena: Ive already answered. The King: What did you answer? Nagasena: What did you ask? The King: I asked nothing. Nagasena: I answered nothing Also similar to koans and mondos, the sudden school of Zen also used turning phrases to help promote enlightenment and understanding. Examples of a turning phrases are, Not one, not two, Chop wood: carry water, and Form is emptiness; emptiness is form. These are all mottos that are used to help the practitioner gain more insight, and hopefully find sudden enlightenment. Being the foundation of Zen Buddhism, meditation is the main aspect of the religion. Zen essentially is meditation. In Zen, the path is the goal. It is like riding your bicycle simply to ride your bicycle. Zen Buddhism has split into two schools of thought, the gradual and the sudden approach to enlightenment. In the gradual school, there is only one way to practice Zen meditation, which is seated meditation, called zazen. Zazen can be performed in several different ways, but the positions have no significance other than comfort and stability. Breathing is an important part of meditation as well. The sudden school believes enlightenment could potentially occur instantly. They use koans, mondos, and turning phrases to help the practitioner gain more insight, and hopefully be enlightened. Koans, mondos, and turning phrases are irrational dialogues or statements that practitioners contemplate upon. The main topics to point out when discussing meditation in Zen Buddhism are the goals of their meditation, the gradual school of thought, and the sudden school of thought. Gach, Gary. Use of Satire in Kurt Vonneguts Cats Cradle :: Kurt Vonnegut Cats Cradle Essays

Use of Satire in Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle Kurt Vonnegut said in The Vonnegut Statement (1973), in an interview with Robert Scholes, that one of his reasons for writing is "to poison minds with humanity†¦to encourage them to make a better world" (107). This idea works quite well in Vonnegut's book, Cat's Cradle. It is a satirical story of a man's quest to write a book about the day the world ended (refering to the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima), which he never finishes. What we get is a raw look at humans trying desperately to find a sense of purpose in their lives through different means such as religion, science, etc. Vonnegut uses satire that is both dark and humorous to pursue this point. A good example is found in the prelude of the book where he writes, "Nothing in this book is true. 'Live by the foma [Harmless untruths] that make you brave and kind and healthy and happy.'" Bokonon, we learn, is a religion that is made up of "bittersweet lies" (12). "Truth was the enemy of the people, because the truth was so terrible, so Bokonon [the creator of the religion] made it his business to provide the people with better and better lies" (118). We also learn that science takes the opposite opinion. One of the men who helped develop the atomic bomb tells us, "The more truth we have to work with, the richer we become" (36). I think one thing that Vonnegut is trying to show us is that man too easily accepts things as valid without questioning. Refering to this, Newt, another character, says, "No wonder kids grow up crazy. A cat's cradle is nothing but a bunch of X's between somebody's hands, and little kids look and look and look at all those X's†¦No damn cat, and no damn cradle" (114). Cat's Cradle is full of these kinds of "poisons" not only about religion and science, but also about many other human frailties as well. In a way, Vonnegut is holding a mirror (that hides no imperfections) up to humanity in order that humanity might see its own the folly and futility and thus be impelled to try and improve. I think Vonnegut's hope is that this book will allow people to laugh at themselves while also making them think about how they are directing their own lives.

For me, as a student and an athlete always looking for fresh, healthy food at good prices it is on of the best options to choose. That is why I have chosen this company to evaluate. Also, I will be able to find some new information about Wm Morrison, which will be useful for me as a customer. The essay includes information about background, current strategy, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and prospects. Background Wm Morrison was founded in 1899 by William Morrison, an egg and butter merchant. Now, it is one of the largest supermarket chains in the UK, offering a vide range of goods including other brands and own label products. The company is headquartered in Bradford, the UK and employs about 124,530 people. And it has assuranced to create about 5000 jobs this year. It operates over 382 stores and 287 petrol stations all over UK. With such a growth Morrison became a member of the â€Å"Big Four† grocery retailers. ttp://www. guardian. co. uk/business/2009/jan/13/morrisons-supermarkets (15/11/09) www. morrisons. co. uk/Corporate/About-Morrisons/Company-history1/ (15/11/09) Current strategy Wm Morrison has a vision called ‘Food Specialist for Everyone’. It has three different brand values: Fresh, Value and Service. Those three values should give them flexibility to react to market changes and customer tendencies. Brand values: Fresh The Company’s aim is to prepare more freshly food than any other retailer. That’s why they have more staff preparing food than others. The company is strong by having their own factories, production facilities and distribution network. With these facilities they can get food to stores faster so that it is always fresher. Value Value is the key to the vision and is very important in the market conditions. They offer quality and freshness at a price which people like. Their offers are about saving customers money. And their prices are great value across the ranges. Service Because they have their own distribution network, they can be sure that the right products are always available for our customers. The staff is well skilled so they give customers what they want – fresh food served by helpful, friendly, well-trained people. http://lispac. lsbu. ac. uk/record=e1000089 (15/11/09) Strengths Financial performance With high revenues of ? 14. 5 billion, Morrison is UK's fourth largest food retailer. The company operates 382 stores and serves 10 million customers every week. According to TNS market research, it has a market share of 12. 3 % in the grocery market. Morrison has achieved numerous of awards in 2008, including â€Å"Retailer of the Year†, the â€Å"Grocer of the Year† and many others. It develops the brand image of the company and provides a competitive lead. Vertically integrated operations Morrison is unique food retailer because it is the only one which owns and runs fresh food making and processing abilities. This company has 12 manufacturing places in the UK and a vide transport park. This is how the company provides economies of scale at a high level and is solid in its operations. Focus on conscious consumers In response to the recession Morrison has to offer something attractive to their customers. That is why company rolled out offers such as ? family meal deals, 2 for 1 offer on party foods and many others. With such a strategy Morrison can drive sales in a weak economic environment. www. marketlineinfo. com. lispac. lsbu. ac. uk/library/Default. aspx (16/11/09) Weaknesses Lack of taking part in online shopping Online shopping is growing every year in the UK. With such a high speed of growing online shopping, supermarkets start their online sales channel s to increase the revenues. ASDA, Tesco and Sainsbury in the UK have started their channels in the online shopping. However, Morrison has not started this trend which could limit growth opportunities. ww. marketlineinfo. com. lispac. lsbu. ac. uk/library/DisplayContent. aspx? As a part of optimization plan, the company completed the re-branding of all its stores and over 3,000 own-brand Morrison products received new packaging. One part has been completed, to re–brand all stores and over 3,000 own-brand Morrison products have new packaging. The Company also installed self-scan checkouts over half stores. Successful optimization plan could develop market share, brand value and success for the company. Growth in private brand markets The private brand market is about a strong growth in sales and is expected to reach about ? 52 billion by 2011. These products have high margin potential. . Morrison offers 18,000 product lines in a typical store, 32% of which are own-brand labels. The growth in private label products could be a major opportunity for the company and could increase its success. www. marketlineinfo. com. lispac. lsbu. ac. uk/library/DisplayContent. aspx? Morrison offers a range of organic products, through its own label â€Å"Organic†, including eggs, cheese, potatoes, mushrooms, tea bags and muesli. The growing market for organic products could largely increase revenues. Prospects Recessionary climate Like most economies, the UK is now on recession, as well. Because of recession, unemployment is increasing and consumers have to be more cautious of spending. As a result, the company's sales and margins will be under huge pressure during such difficult economic times. www. marketlineinfo. com. lispac. lsbu. ac. uk/library/DisplayContent. aspx? Te adult minimum wage has increased from ? 5. 73 in October 2008 to ? 5. 80 which will come into effect in October 2009. An increase in labor costs will increase Sainsbury's in service costs and impact its margins. Intense competition Morrison is facing intense competition in their business from other supermarkets and stores. Tesco drives trough multiple store formats. Marks and Spencer's and Waitrose supermarkets are planning development in the UK. Growing competition could lead to the pricing pressures, which would reduce the company’s turnover. www. marketlineinfo. com. lispac. lsbu. ac. uk/library/DisplayContent. aspx? They put a lot of attention on a fresh and healthy food which becomes more popular between consumers. With a strategy like this, they can stand strong between top 4 retailers in the UK. However, Morrison is not interested in online shopping, which according to the statistics will increase very fast in the next few years. What is more, in such difficult economic times consumers are eating out less and looking for cheaper forms of entertainment. It will be tough to keep high revenues facing recession and intense competition from other supermarkets. Free Essays on Belated St Pattys Day

BELATED ST. PATTY’S DAY I remember being nearly awake at two or so in the morning on March 18th, 1991 tossing and turning in my bed and then in the middle of my restlessness, a gun fired. The cops rushed the door, placed her in handcuffs, all the while I was looking from a distance in my pseudo sleep stage, not quite sure if what I had seen really happened. This day marked a new beginning and a healthy approach to life for my mother. On this day, which I came to learn some months after the fact, was my mother’s new birthday. Luckily, the bullet grazed her head, only to shatter a mirror behind her. Alcoholism is a drug addiction. Alcohol is the culprit drug and it’s classified under a group called depressants, which affects the central nervous system, impairing concentration and judgment. Soon after rehabilitation started, I learned that my mother was an alcoholic and the problems associated with alcoholism were both physical and mental. My mother’s problems with drinking came way before I was conceived and some would argue that her problems came before her conception too. Although it has not been proven, there is substantial evidence that supports alcoholism is hereditary. Offspring of alcoholics are three to four times more likely to develop alcohol problems than offspring of non-alcoholics. The most unusual thing that I learned after my mother stuck me in Alateen is that alcoholism is a disease. Alateen is a place for teenagers to get advise in dealing with their alcoholic parent or parents and is a growing department of Alcoholics Anonymous. Alcoholism has serious physical consequences, but there are several steps that lead to this disease. Your body gradually inherits a tolerance over a period of years and becomes dependent on the drug. The second step occurs when the victim notices memory lapses and blackouts. Lastly, the victim becomes powerless over alcohol and consumes beyond the normal limit. ... Public vs. Private school Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Public vs. Private school - Essay Example Moving further ahead, one should believe that the private schools are faring better than the public schools because the private entities work to provide benefits to a select mix of students and thus the community premise is pretty apparent within the same. The public and private schools are different in their manifestations and this is the most basic reason why the public and private schools are seen with a sense of skepticism when the talk goes out loud regarding their combination at certain places (Fabry, 2001). What needs to be understood here is the fact hat both public and private schools will have to play a larger role than just getting combined for no solid reason. It is a fact that the combination might not bring the value that is expected out of their entireties but what it shall do is to form a core syllabus or curriculum for them, which will in return mean that both the public and private school mechanisms have a sense of uniformity within their aegis. The need is to prope rly combine the two so that the alignment factor does not seem to be a missing one, because this is important at the end of the day. The reason why private schools seem to work better for the students and the entire community in meticulous is because the private schools are geared to look after the selected few and does not take into consideration just about any segment of the society, which wants to attain education (Wang, 2001). Also the private schools are very much inclined towards quality which seems to be a problem for the public school enterprises – focusing more on quantity than the other way around. The private schools look after the needs and requirements of the students in a proactive way. What this means is the fact that the private schools are focusing on the quality tangent and are relying on how the students will advance into their professional domains over a period of time. Since the private schools do not require governmental funding, it becomes easier for th ese schools to bring about their thoughts into serious actions (Burke, 2003). This is not the case with the public schools where even the smallest of actions and steps take maximum amount of time. The public schools therefore lose out on a number of contexts when it comes to understanding their nuances in light of the private schools, and more specifically in the time and age of today. The argument for the sake pf the private schools seem to be a winning one because the private schools look to hire the best faculties, train teachers whilst they are on the job and give infrastructure and support to the students which seem unheard of when one compares the same with the public schools. However many public schools do seem to come up with different grants and scholarships for their students, the fact of the matter is that nepotism and like-mindedness seem to rule the roost there. These are some of the most depressing scenarios and situations that one can easily witness within the folds o f the public schools (Smith, 1949). The argument gains weight when one comes to the reckoning that the quality education does come with a price on its head. This means that the private

Asses the role and significance of the British Empire for the Essay

Asses the role and significance of the British Empire for the development of the nineteenth century international economy - Essay Example As compared with other powers that were not able to leverage an empire, or an empire of the sheer size and breadth/complexity and diverse peoples and markets as that which the United Kingdom had, were not nearly so competitive during this time. In such a way, these competitive powers help to show the level to which the United Kingdom’s dominance was nearly supreme. As a means of understanding this actuality, the reader should consider that the United Kingdom’s empire afforded it two extremely essential resources towards achieving and maintaining dominance within economics. These two factors were the markets which the existence of the empire afforded as well as the raw materials which the empire itself could supply. One might more broadly consider the degree of cheap and oftentimes free labor that the existence of the empire also provided as yet another key determinant in economic power and hegemony (Hagerman 2009, p. 345). As a function of this brief overview and analys is these three factors will be briefly considered and analyzed to help create the case that the existence of the empire and the economic power and strength that the United Kingdom was able to exhibit during the nineteenth century were mutually exclusive (Libecap et al 2011, p. 300). In short, without the empire, the power and dominance of the United Kingdom, both militarily, economically, and politically would not have been possible. Firstly, with regards to the raw resources that the empire afforded to the development of the British economy, with the lack of such an empire, the resources that the economy required would have been exponentially more expensive. Likewise, due to the fact that the mechanisms of resource extraction could take place throughout the British Empire and return these raw materials to the home island, finished products could then be developed and manufactured from these raw materials. By reducing the necessity to pay market prices for resources, something that any other economic power that did not retain an expansive empire during this time would need to do, the British Empire was able to provide integral resources for the production of relatively low-cost goods which in turn could be marketed and sold to the remainder of the world; as well as back to the very economies which the resources were originally taken from (Desbordes 2008, p. 128). This brings us to the second point, market places. As the British Empire spread over the entire globe, this necessarily meant that a litany of nations, regions, tribal groups and other segmentations of peoples and territory were introduced to the goods that the United Kingdom had to offer for sale (Candlin 2009, p. 524). Similarly, because there was a monopolistic type economic arrangement that existed within the empire, the ability to purchase for the competition states was a non-existent option. In this way, the United Kingdom had a captive market in which to resell the finished goods that the very same empire had supplied the raw materials for in the first place (Stuart 2008, p. 4). Finally, this analysis will consider the fact that the empire itself provided extraordinarily cheap labor which provided the Empire with a means to extract a great deal of material wealth and/or natural resources at a cost that none of the competing economic powers in Europe or the United States could match at the time (Roy 2003, p. 398). This again acted as a type of symbiotic relationship

The differences in the use of language between old and young Term Paper

The differences in the use of language between old and young generation in Saudi Arabia - Term Paper Example From this research, it is evident that different factors contribute to the difference in the language used by individuals belonging to the young and the old generation. Some of the factors that will be examined include; technology, stereotypes, and the generation gap (Bassiouney, 2009).   Literature review According to Calvert (2002) the difference in language used between the young and the old generation in Saudi Arabia has led to difficulties in communication. He reveals that the difference in language used by persons belonging to these two generations is as a result of stereotypes. Some of these stereotypes he depicts are as a result of the taboos the people of the old generation were exposed to. The participants who were interviewed in this research revealed that individuals belonging to the old generation were more formal in their communication style than the young. An examination of the stereotypes as a factor contributing to the difference in the language between the young a nd the old in Saudi revealed that, the differences in communication were, as a result of the difference in the expectations between these two groups. For example, the participants who were interviewed in this research showed that they experienced difficulties in communicating with persons of the old generation. This is because they were a bit slow in learning the other languages they used to communicate. Calvert (2002) also reveals that the variances in the use of linguistics between the young and the old in Saudi are because individuals belonging to the young generation incorporated some modern aspects in their language. He illustrates that this is because the young people think this would make communication between them appealing. However, he also illustrates that the old tend not to be comfortable when they incorporate such features in their communication. This is because they normally have the stereotype that persons belonging to the young generation tend to be rude when they in corporate some of the features in their communication (Calvert, 2002). Crystal (2001) illustrates that technology plays a role in the difference in the language used between the young and the old in Saudi. This is because an examination of the history of the old generation reveals that the old people did not incorporate a lot of technology in their communication. He, therefore, argues that the introduction of technology has greatly influenced the use of language among persons belonging to the young generation. The responses from the questionnaires also revealed that the introduction of the internet immensely influenced their communication styles, hence affecting their use of language. The participants claimed that the difficulty experienced by the old in adapting to the changing technology, was a factor that contributed to a difference in language use between the young
